I spent one week in the last valley in the eastern corner of Italy near the Slovenian and Austrian border. The place where I did my art intervention are woods where was a military line in the first world war.
The woods of Prati di Oitzinger, Val Saisera in Italy are more than beautiful and constantly change the vegetation. To do art work in such a magical place become big question. The nature of woods preserve very well the beauty and magic of the place that you don’t want disturb and introduce something that deconstruct the system of this place.
My process of intervention was to bring out from this place memory, trace and geometry. For instance, looking for the geometry in the organic system of the woods was a challenge that I felt of this place. At the same time, I was searching opposite meanings of the system and situations.
Before I started to work I was walking alone several times through the passages of the woods. The meaning was that I want to soak all that trace and memories that preserve this place until the moment that I pass enter for the first time. At the end, I chose the place which have human trace that release to see the rest of their needs. The human cut the tree for economic, social and esthetic needs. Behind that leaves many tree stumps. I choose six of them and I connected them with geometric passage. Working every day alone in a middle of the woods with all those silences and sounds of nature that somehow become a rite of the meditations and hard work with hands to put and to fit together all six-scaffold plank with swallowtail joints.
The more days I was there more I was convinced that the human can't control or transformed nature space because it’s so homogeneous and powerful that can transform you in A rite of passage.
A rite of passage is a ceremony or ritual of the passage which occurs when an individual leaves one group to enter another. It involves a significant change of status in society.
