Rok Bogataj was born in Ljubljana (Slovenia) in 1974. He graduated in 2002 at the Academy of fine Arts in Venice. He composes archaeology of daily life through appropriation and associative thought processes that connect the everyday and the mythical. Using the materials that surround us in particularly, timbers and sheets materials, metal, plaster. He gives to those elements a new aesthetic present by assembling and processing them into different compositions and constructions depending on space and time which means reinvention of the modes of appearance and creation of artwork. Concrete and plaster, he melt and then cast it into pre-selected shapes, from which he produced many same elements that compose the new geometric body. He is currently working on the traces, both as a form to investigate, and a proof of a more or less recent origin that we should remember. His work is expressed through different mediums such as sculpture, site-specific, land-art, photography, video and drawing. His work was presented in various solo and group exhibitions since 1997. He lives and works in Ljubljana.
